User manual for the Grass Valley STORM Mobile Multi I/O Processor with PC1e 608557
The user manual for the Grass Valley STORM Mobile Multi I/O Processor with PC1e 608557 provides
necessary instructions for the proper use of the product Professional Video - Post Production - Computer Hardware.
The Grass Valley STORM Mobile Multi I/O Processor is a bundle that combines EDIUS Pro 7 editing software with the STORM I/O device for real-time capture and output of SD and HD video. This version of the STORM features a PCIe x1 card for desktops. Suitable for digital and analog video capture and output, the STORM Mobile is equipped with HDMI (for video formats up to 1080i), component, composite, S-Video, and unbalanced stereo RCA audio. Every input is paired with an output, so you can also loop the source video through to a second downstream device with needing a separate distribution amplifier. In addition, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the STORM unit to make plugging in headphones for local monitoring more convenient than relying on the computer.
The STORM Mobile feature integrated hardware downconversion function that is designed to give you the best-looking picture when scaling HD material to confirm to SD, such as when creating DVDs. Downconversion is hardware-based, so the process doesn't use any CPU power, nor will it have any effect on editing performance.
By using the HDMI output of your camcorder, in many cases you can capture video with STORM Mobile at higher quality that can be recorded by the camera internally. For example, the STORM Mobile can capture 4:2:2, I-Frame, 150 Mb/s in HQ mode whereas AVCHD cameras can record, at best, 28 Mb/s in highly compressed long-GOP format. The additional information lower compression I-Frame provides is especially beneficial for keying work, compositing, and advanced color correction.
The STORM Mobile's real-time monitoring capability includes a dedicated composite output that always shows an SD picture regardless of the resolution used for editing. Apart from the composite output, the other outputs will always show the video in its native frame rate and resolution without any frame skipping or degradation. For digitization, the STORM Mobile leverages the 3-dimensional Y/C separation also found in the ADVC-300 converter, which allows you to digitize legacy analog formats from the cleanest possible signal.
The EDIUS 7 Nonlinear Editing Software empowers editors by offering real-time workflows in virtually any resolution, up to 4K. Most formats are supported natively on the timeline with no rendering, so editors can dedicate their attention to crafting a story rather than ingesting footage. On resource-strapped machines, low-resolution proxy editing enables organizations to extend the lifecycle of older desktop and laptop systems with proxy-only editing capabilities, as well as bringing editing to the existing desktop PCs. This is especially beneficial in newsrooms where desktop computers may not be equipped with the latest processors or significant memory.
EDIUS 7 takes advantage of the 64-bit computing technology to enable faster and more creative editing. Real-time editing of multiple formats on the same timeline--including increased 4K support--unlimited media tracks, and real-time conversion of frame rates on the same timeline, allows editors to edit faster and be more creative.
This unit draws power from the IDE connector in the drive bay or can be adapted to draw from another source from within the host computer.
